The Twistettes ‘Red Door Open’ Album Launch – 2nd May 2025 at Ivory Blacks, Glasgow

Image
On Friday 2nd May 2025, I attended the Twistettes’ Red Door Open album launch party at Ivory Blacks, Glasgow. While my main focus was to review Somnia’s performance, I was fortunate to catch all three acts: the up-and-coming Flinch, the enigmatic Somnia, and magnetic headliners the Twistettes.                                         Upon arriving, I caught the tail-end of Jo D’Arc’s solo acoustic set. As the charismatic frontwoman of the Twistettes, her performance radiated vibrant energy. Her husky voice and energetic guitar playing caught the attention of the room, and her light-hearted "love song to the sesh" was a standout (and relatable) number. Jo's stage presence was warm and infectious, and by no means diminished despite performing without a full band.   ...

Indie-Pop Artist Misty-Jo Releases Haunting New Single ‘Hold Me Tight’

Indie-Pop Artist Misty-Jo Releases Haunting New Single ‘Hold Me Tight’   On April 11th, Edinburgh-based British-French singer-songwriter Misty-Jo unveiled her latest indie-pop ballad, Hold Me Tight —a vulnerable and powerfully relatable track that explores the lingering scars of childhood trauma while reclaiming the right to be cared for with tenderness and dignity. Built around a delicate, piano-led arrangement, the song gradually unfolds into an emotionally rich landscape, enhanced by the evocative string work of Sam Rae. The instrumentation remains intentionally stripped back, allowing space for both an intense, slow-building crescendo and the haunting beauty of Misty-Jo’s layered vocal harmonies to shine. The result is a raw and intimate experience that invites the listener to lean in and carefully consider the powerful message it raises.        Hold Me Tight follows last year’s equally moving Cold Outside , further establishing Misty-Jo’s signat...

7676: Pretty Creatures Release

Image
Review: Pretty Creatures – 7676 Glasgow-based alt-rock band Pretty Creatures brings a captivating blend of dark, groovy energy and polished production in their latest track, ‘7676’. With a sound that resonates with the atmospheric qualities of bands like Muse, their latest track showcases their talent for crafting emotive and introspective music. Within this article, I have provided my review of the single followed by an interview with the band where you can learn about their creative process.   Pretty Creatures are comprised of good friends Rory Boyle on lead vocals and rhythm guitar, Calum Campbell on electric guitar, Estefanía Badilla Mora on bass guitar and Stephen Buggy on drums. I have recently watched Pretty Creatures perform at Glasgow’s Bloc - in addition to other occasions - and have always found myself moved by their togetherness as a band and lost in their heavier grooves. I would highly recommend keeping an eye open for any upcoming gigs. 7676 Review : ...

Mood Ring: Gig Review

Mood Ring: Gig Review   Event by 23 Music Management   I had the pleasure of attending Mood Ring’s debut Glasgow gig, tucked away in a cosy basement venue of Room 2 that was buzzing with energy. Taking place on the 28 th September, the crowd was nearly at capacity, creating an intimate atmosphere for the night. The first act was alternative rock act Just Someone Who Cared, though I regretfully could not make it in time for their set due to other commitments.   I arrived just in time to catch the tail end of Daphné Rouge , an Indie Pop artist whose vibrant stage presence and powerful vocals were a breath of fresh air, especially after my recent bout with a cold. Accompanied by her lively band—William Macdonald on electric guitar, Aly Macpherson on bass, and Panka Pongrácz on drums—Daphné delivered an energetic performance that was visually and musically captivating. Their colourful outfits matched the vibrant energy of the set, making for an engaging exp...
